The urge of making more money is always a staggering desire of so many people in the world. Something inside a man makes him think that having more money will help solve all his life's problems plus that of his family and give them a better future.
But does it always work out that way? A man in a certain village made so much money but was lured into gambling. He played once and hit jackpot. From that time, he continued to play, expecting to get more money every week. He did that for a very long time till he lost all that he had and never won any money again. He had married so many wives because he was no longer content with the wife of his youth. With his large family, many wives, children and no money, he died few years after.
Agur, in our text, did not see life that. He had a different view of life. Of riches he says, " Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me." He needed just enough, not more, not less. He was content with what He had, he didn't want riches or poverty to make him sin against his God to grant the grace to maintain honest living. "Remove falsehood and lies from me." This is a great request , a key to overcoming deceit and anxiety. What is man!
Integrity and contentment are marks of godliness that every child of God should pray for. They are riches to the soul and any man that requires then will always be at peace with God, Himself and the world Him.
Contentment cannot be acquired with money.
Lord, give me the grace to acquire integrity and contentment.
