" Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?" .(Isaiah 58:6)
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
Fastingis one of the spiritual disciplines required of every believer. However, it is necessary that we be mindful of the fact that the practice of fasting goes much deeper than the act of going without food. God declares that His delight is not really in our missing meals but rather in unloosing the bonds of wickedness, liberating those who are oppressed, sharing our resources with the needy, providing shelter to the homeless, supplying clothing to the naked and to stop accusing and judging others. It is an error for someone to be fasting and habouring destructive thoughts and oppressive behaviours.
God's approved kind of fasting holds some precious promises for us. They include answers to our prayers, divine healing, enlightenment and direction, plus supernatural satisfaction.
It, therefore, behooves us to readdress our act of fasting to ensure
that it is not just mere ritual or an exercise in futility. We must not fast because others are fasting neither should we fast because we want to intimidate the devil. Our fasting does not frighten Satan.
He even dared to tempt the Lord Jesus when He was on a forty day
and forty nights fast. The fundamental purpose of our fasting should be personal transformation that would translate to actions that bring glory to God.
Fasting is not Just for fulfilling all righteousness but It has to be done to the glory of God.
Lord, help me to fast in a way that pleases you.
