Read Job 32:1--5

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city

. (Proverbs 16:32)

An excerpt reads: Abraham Lincoln's secretary of war, Edwin Stanton, was angered by an army officer who accused him of favouritism. Stanton complained to Lincoln, who suggested that Stanton write the officer a sharp letter. Stanton did, and showed the strongly worded missive to the president. "What are you going to do with it?" Lincoln inquired. Surprised, Stanton replied, " Sent it." Lincoln shook his head. " You don't want to send that letter, " he said. " Put it in the stove. That's what I do when I have written a letter while I am angry. It's a good letter and you had a good time writing it, and feel better. Now burn it, and write another. "
Whoa! What a lesson from a man who has conquered himself. You need to know that fits of rage lead always to bad judgement and reaction. But God always wants us to effectively master our temper.
Anger breeds hatred, murderous spirit, hypertension, high fever and headaches, and paralyses good sense of judgement and sound speech. Imagine how the three Hebrews handled the situation that would have made them exhibit the folly of anger : O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up (Dan. 3:16-18).
Whoa! And their God did deliver them, and He shall deliver you, too. Are you overcame by anger on issues? Ask God for help, and always burn the letter.

1. Oh Lord, help me to always refrain from anger /wrath, so I can think aright in all situations.
2. Holy Spirit, help me to manage my temper, so that I don't keep offending You while thinking I am fighting for You.
3. Pray for spouses who are being torn apart by anger, animosity and unforgiving attitude for what their spouses had done against them.

1 King 16--17, 1Cor. 16. & 2 Cor. 1
