Read: 1 Peter 4:12-19

But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people's matters.

(1 Peter 4:15)

Christians may experience suffering as a consequence of their own actions *(1 Peter 4:15)*. God uses pain to punish Christians who have been disobedient. He may use such suffering as a means of disciplining us so that we may achieve the peaceable fruit of righteousness *(Hebrews 12:3-11)*. He often uses suffering to call His straying children to repent of their sin and renew their faith in Him.

Another reason why Christians may experience suffering is persecution. Persecution comes in various forms. If you seek to obey God, you may be mocked. You can miss a promotion or even lose a job for doing what is right. In some places, you can even be attacked or killed for being faithful to Jesus. It is an inevitable experience of faithful believers in an ungodly world controlled by Satan and opposed to the gospel. Suffering for righteousness sake is an evidence of the genuineness of our devotion to Christ *(Matthew 5:10-12; 2 Timothy 2:12)*.

God may also use suffering of His faithful children to further the cause of His kingdom and the plan of redemption as exemplified by Joseph *(Genesis 45:7)*.

As long as we are not suffering as murderers or criminals, we must remember that God is involved in our suffering and has promised to bring good out of the sufferings of those who love Him and obey His commandment *(Romans 8:28)*.

So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good *(1 Peter 4:19)*, they should even rejoice to be counted to suffer like the Master *(Philippians 1:29)*.

*1.* Lord Jesus, I am ready to go through everything You have ordained that I should go through to become who and what You want; help me.
*2.* I refuse to suffer anything You have not programmed for me, oh Lord.
*3.* Pray for brethren who are being persecuted for the sake of the Gospel, all over the world.

*EXTRA READING FOR TODAY:* Haggai 2; Zechariah 1 - 2.
