_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_ *RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION* *TEXT:* AMOS 3:1-3_*KEY VERSE* "You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities" (AMOS 3:2)._ "Spare the rod and spoil the child" is a popular maxim. God called Israel His first born (Exodus 4:22). Through signs and wonders and a 'strong hand', He planted them in the land of Canaan, flowing with milk and honey. Like one would do to a firstborn, God satisfied Israel with good things. He protected them, supplied their needs and fought against their enemies. But like a spoilt child, Israel took God's love for granted. God would have none of that because He has eyes too pure to behold iniquity. Prophet Amos was sent by God to deliver His message to erring Israel. God reminded them of the redemptive work in Egypt. Because Israel had gone into unrighteousness, God asked them an obvious question: "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" There is nothing like eternal security (that is, the idea that once we are saved, we remain forever saved irrespective whatever we do). The soul that doeth presumptuously shall be cut off from among his brethren. We need to be careful. If God spared not Israel that He referred to as the 'only family' He had known of all families of the earth, how can anyone imagine that God would put up with his sins and iniquities? The fact that God has not executed His judgment upon His erring children now is because He is giving a window of opportunity, so that the sinners and backsliders may repent. lf one fails to repent eventually, God will severely punish all iniquities. Remember, God is no respecter of persons. *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* God does not condone sins even in His children. *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR* 2 SAMUEL 8-10. *MEDITATION* Insight into how God judges *1. Judgement according to universal truth*. Those who sinned against the well known truth of righteousness will be punished accordingly regardless of whether they have the Bible or not, v2, Romans 2:2. *2. Judgement accordingly to deeds*Every one will judged according to their actions or deeds while on earth, v2, Romans 2:6. *3. Judgement according to priviledge*Privilege of service neglected attracts greater judgement than those who are not given that privilege, v2, James 3:1. No basis for comparism with others *4. Judgement according to knowledge or light received* Greater judgement awaits those who have knowledge or receives light than those who have less or none, v2, Romans 2:11-15, Luke 12:47,48, Matthew 11:21-24. Knowledge or light confers more responsibility on the recipients. *5. Judgement according to the gospel*People will be judged according to the knowledge of the gospel while those who do not live in the gospel era will be judged by other means above, v2, Romans 2:12,16. *6. Judgement according to motive and intention*Rightness of actions is not tantamount to rightness of motives and intentions. Motives and intentions unseen by mortals will be exposed and judged by the all seeing God v2, Romans 2:16, I Corinthians 13:1-3. *7. Judgement according to dispensation*The period you live determines the severity of your judgements, v2, Matthew 11:21-24. Those under the grace will receive greater judgement than those who live when there was no Bible and no Law. For example, while some lies by the righteous in the OT, when there was no Law, were ignored under some circumstances, the New Testament does not overlook such. *Question*What is the implication of all those criteria for judgement as you judge or compare yourself with others? *Prayer points* Praise God for His rightous and multidimensional approach to judgementsPraise God for all the light and privileges you have in the gospelPray that God will help you not to rebel against the truth and knowledgePray for all brethren against tendencies to be taking God for granted *HYMN* There is a great day coming.
