He was fair and beautiful. He had long hairs which finally trapped him to a tree and led to his death. His beautiful sister, Tamar, was greatly admired by his half-brother, Ammon who eventually tricked her to his house, raped and later hated her. This was the beginning of Absalom’s problem with his father’s house. Absalom went into exile and returned three years later after getting a state pardon from his father, the king. Forty years after, Absalom conspired against his father and attempted to overthrow him in a botched coup d’etat which led to his ultimate death at the war front between the armies of Israel and the loyalists of his father. There are several lessons we can learn from the life and times of Absalom. Let us remember that God placed a curse on the house of David as a result of his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of his husband (2 Samuel 12:10-11). We began to see the fulfilment of this curse in 2 Samuel 16:20-22 when Absalom slept with his father’s concubines. What a tragedy! This is to confirm to us that the word of God never fails. Whatever He says shall come to pass; not a jot of His word will go unaccomplished. Although, He loved David so much, yet the curse manifested. Secondly, we can learn that God punishes sin and no sinner will go unpunished. God made David to feel the sorrow of his divided household and antagonistic children, even at his old age. Are you a true worshipper of God and a man or woman after God’s heart? You need to be watchful. A jot of sin can bring sorrow into your life or household in future. Furthermore, you can pray that your child shall not become the rod of punishment for you in the future, in Jesus’ name. PRAYER POINTS: MORNING 1. Spirit of destruction, my children’s lives are not your candidate, die, in the name of Jesus. 2. I shall not invite the curse of God upon my household, in the name of Jesus. 3. O God my Father, let Your mercy prevail upon my life, in the name of Jesus. EVENING 4. I refuse to bring evil consequences upon my generation, in the name of Jesus. 5. Sin that destroys generations, my life is not your candidate, die, in the name of Jesus. 6. My children shall not become misfired arrows, in the name of Jesus. 7. Mercy of God, speak over my life and household, in the name of Jesus. MOUNTAIN TOP LIFE is a daily devotional by Dr. D.K Olukoya (General Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, Worldwide)
