_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_  *A PLACE FOR DESIRE* *TEXT:* PSALMS 87:1-6._*KEY VERSE* "The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than the dwellings of Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God" (PSALMS 87:2,3)._  In a 2019 ranking, Paris, the capital of France, was voted the most beautiful city in the world by travel experts. The city is also known as one that never sleeps. As beautiful and magnificent as this city appears, the psalmist in our text, describes Zion as the glorious city of God, founded on the holy mountains, a most delightful city, which God delights in. The Lord loves her gates more than all places where the Israelites lived, because He specifically chose Zion as His worship centre. Glorious things are spoken of this city because at that place, God met His people in praise and offerings. This chosen physical worship centre was desirable to all the true worshippers of God. Elsewhere in the Psalms, the psalmist says, "l was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the LORD." The Church, the elect of God, should be looking forward to that glorious New Jerusalem that comes from God out of heaven. The wall of the city has twelve foundations garnished with all manner of precious stones (Revelation 21:14,19). The Builder and Maker is God, and there will be everlasting fellowship with Him over there. This new city is incomparable in beauty and glory to any glorious city on earth. Therefore, it is not a city to be exchanged for any country of this world. Salvation is the visa and consistent holy living is the boarding pass for the flight to that heavenly and glorious "city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God." *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* Only the narrow path leads to the city with the pearly gates.  *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR* ACTS 11-12. *MEDITATION* The city of God *1. The conception of the city*a. Mount Zion is described as the earthly city of God situated in Jerusalem, the "city of the great King" of kings, vv1-3, Matthew 5:35.2. This future religious capital city of the world, when Jesus comes, will be called "holy" and "glorious", vv1,3.*Q* What makes the place holy and glorious? The presence of God makes it holy. Remember the holy ground Moses and Joshua were asked to remove the shoes of their feet, Exodus 3:5, Joshua 5:14,15.*Note* God could only dwell in an *holy* temple and the presence of God in the heart makes holy. No holiness, no real presence of God.*2. The citizenship of the city*a. Only citizens will have access and visa to enter when Jesus comes, Isaiah 35:8-10.b. The citizens, though may be people of different nations, like Babylon, Ethiopia etc, will be those who had spiritual rebirth in Zion i.e. those who are regenerated and born again through the flow of grace from Zion, vv4-5.c. The name of the citizens will be written in the Lord's book, v6.d. It will be a place of beautiful and heart touching music with instrumentalists; and all springs of divine blessings will flow from their to all, vv6,7.*3. The heavenly city*a. While the earthly city of Jerusalem will be the abode of Christ and the saints during the 1000 millennial reign, there is also the heavenly Jerusalem which will be eternal, Hebrews 12:22,23.b. This heavenly Jerusalem shall be eternally indwelt by the Triune God, the holy angels, the "Church of the first born", ie. the New Testament saints, and all the other saints including the OT saints and the tribulation saints called " the spirits of just men made perfect." Hebrews 12:22,23, Revelation 21.c. The citizenship for future earthly mount Zion is the same for the heavenly. Must be regenerated, holy and have their names written in the Book of life, Psalm 15, Revelation 20:12, Revelation 31:27. In other words, they have the sanctifying presence of God in their hearts. Only two personalities can certify if your name is in the Book of life: Yourself and God through the Holy Spirit.*Q* Is (not was) your name in the Book of Life? *Prayer points*If you are not sure, surrender to Christ afresh and ask the Holy Spirit to give you assuranceLord, give me hatred and deliverance from anything that will hinder me from entering the heavenly JerusalemPray for our Church goers, whose name are not in the Book of life, that God to visit and save themPray that God will visit the church that many more sinners will be saved and prepared for heaven *HYMN* How beautiful heaven must be.
