_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_  *RESIST REBELLION* *TEXT:* 2 KINGS 13:1-25._*KEY VERSE* "And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, which made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom" (2 KINGS 13:2)._  Jeroboam had sown a seed which, according to the law of nature, Israel must reap. Several years after his death, all succeeding kings in Israel and Judah continued to follow his evil and negative example of disobedience and rebellion. Although they all knew what God commanded and required from kings and their people, they chose to do contrary to the knowledge they had. These adamant fellows refused to follow the way of godliness. Although there were occasional breaks from these evil practices, there was rarely any clear evidence of complete departure from idolatry. We must not revel in the religious practice of habitual repentance and confessions without a definite and deliberate decision to turn away from sins. This lukewarm and vacillating way of life among God's people led to several years of plundering, defeats, captivities and oppressions from Syria. Unfortunately, the king failed to harness the benefits of the presence of Elisha for their good. For instance, Joash could have done better in following his instructions but he wasted a golden opportunity to completely conquer the Syrians. You have obligations to fulfil in order to enjoy God's blessings. To receive the full benefits of God's plan and purpose for our lives through His servants, there is need for full receptiveness and obedience to His commands. Repent today of all disobedience and rebellion, obey God's full revelation expressed in His commandments and begin to enjoy the full blessings and benefits of His obedient children. *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* Say 'no' to rebellion and 'yes' to righteousness.  *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR* ACTS 1-2. *MEDITATION* God's will and man's choices *1. Chosen but careless*a. Four kings of Israel were mentioned in the text: Jeroboam, Jehu, Jehoahaz, and Jehoash, vv1,2,10.b. Jeroboam was chosen by God through a clear prophetic utterance as a result of his faithfulness, I King 11:28-31. The same with Jehu who was anointed by Elisha as king, 2 King 9:1-3. Jehoahaz and Jehoash also inherited the kingship by prophecy, 2 Kings 10:30. So all the four were the perfect will of God. c. All the four disappointed God and Israel. Jeroboam and Jehu started well but later messed up in idolatry they were appointed to exterminate in Israel. The same to the other two kings.  d. Jeroboam ignorantly instituted generational idols and other kings followed suit, 2 Kings 10:29,31. "Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the LORD".e. Since God was a God of foreknowledge, why did He chose them? They were the most qualified in their generation. Observe the first 2 got to that position through unequal faithfulness. The same with Saul, the King. He was chosen because he was most qualified in his generation.  *Note* Enjoying the will of God, including His perfect will, is a product of man's choices every step of the way. This applies to marriage and choice of leadership too.  *2. Divine encounter for definite impact*a. Elisha impacted the whole nation supernaturally in life and in death, vv17, 20,21. In fact, his dead bones retained miracle power.b. This could be traced to his encounter with Elijah when he was ascending to heaven. That experience resonated with the king saying " my father, my father, the chariot of Israel... " v14, cpw 2 kings 2:12. It was the statement of Elisha when he had encounter with the power of God and that statement resonated till he died. *Note* There must be moments of encounter with God for anybody who will make an impact in their generation. It may be encounter with uncommon revelation, knowledge, inner transformation or divine touch of power. Uncommon encounter with God produces uncommon impact. *Q* Think of those who have impacts on their generations in the Bible and their moments of uncommon encounter. *Prayer points* Pray that God will not allow you henceforth to miss His will in your lifePromise God that you will be making divinely approved choices henceforth so that you will be enjoying His will and ask for graceAsk God to give you the encounter you need to be able to impact into your generationAsk for divine visitation that will make your life a blessing and not a burden *HYMN* Heaven came down.
