_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_  *KNOWING THE LORD PERSONALLY* *TEXT:* 1 KINGS 10:1-13._*KEY VERSE* "Howbeit I believed not the words, until I came, and mine eyes had seen it: and, behold, the half was not told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard (1 KINGS 10:7)._  There is a popular axiom that seeing is believing. Many people prefer to see before making public pronouncements. This was corroborated by Alan Isaacson, a former English teacher in the rural northern part of Nigeria. He later became a full time mission educator, journalist and an adviser in Yorkshire. Many years ago, he heard something remarkable about the extraordinary growth of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria. He eventually came to the country and visited many branches of the church to discover much more than what he was told. The queen of Sheba came to see for herself if everything she heard about King Solomon and his established kingdom was true. After asking the king series of questions and seeing his display of wisdom and abundance of riches, she became convinced and speechless. She could no longer dispute what she had heard before coming to Israel. There was an agreement between what she heard and saw. It is not sufficient to hear about Jesus; nor is it enough to know that Christ is our Saviour and Redeemer. Personal encounter with Him through genuine repentance from all known sins offers peace and eternal life. His grace transforms our character and destiny when it comes to us. The love of God finds ruined sinners and transgressors and transforms them into glorified saints. Christ is the wisdom of God and the Light of the world. Those who refuse to come to the Light to obtain salvation will eventually stumble and perish in darkness and deception. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the truest report that offers peace and pardon for a troubled soul. Those who turn to Him will be set free from the guilt of sin. *THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* The just shall live by faith and not by sight.  *BIBLE IN ONE YEAR* NUMBERS 3-4. *MEDITATION* How to know the truth *1. The search for true knowledge*a. What attracted the Queen to the King was the name of the Lord that made Solomon famous and not any other thing, v1.b. The Queen had prosperity as could be seen in what she gave the King as gifts; she had position, power and popularity. Yet the Queen was sincere enough to admit that none of these satisfy and give lasting joy to the soul, vv1,2.c. Her questions and inquiries were obviously on the God of Israel, the Giver of wisdom to Solomon, v3. The great Queen obviously knew that knowledge and the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, Proverbs 9:10.d. Her costly journey took not less 3 years and she stayed with Solomon for about 6 months learning about the God Israel. What a thirst for the truth and the true God! No wonder, she caught the attention of Jesus.e. The woman was sincere enough to know where to go to in order to receive the knowledge of the true God.f. Jesus commended her for travelling a long voyage and qualified her as better that many generations of people, Matthew 12:42. *Q* Are you on the same page with the Queen? Do you perceive the knowledge and fear of God above all human pursuits? Are you hungry after the knowledge of God? Are you paying the price to know the true God and experience Him better? What do you read or where do you go to in order to get the real thing?*2. The serenity of the taught king*a. Who taught Solomon all those correct answers he gave, his wisdom, the awesome worship and temple etc?, vv4,5.b. Solomon was taught of the Lord and his wisdom is incomparable to the wisest of men that lived apart from Jesus, Matthew 12:42.c. While one may learn many things from others, the greatest knowledge is the one from the Lord Himself by the Holy Spirit after new birth experience. "And they shall be all taught by God. Every man therefore that has heard, and has learned of the Father, comes unto Me" (Jesus), John 6:45.d. There is no greater evidence that you are listening to God's voice and teachings than when you show hunger for more of God, seek His face continually and obey His word. Sure!*3. The satisfaction from trust worthy knowledge*a. The knowledge of the world wearies the body while that of God gives rest to the soul, Ecclesiastics 12:12, Matthew 11:29. The knowledge of the world causes arrogance while that of God humbles the soul before His maker, I Corinthians 8:1, Acts 17:11. The knowledge of the world keeps changing with time while that of God is eternal, I Corinthians 1:19, Matthew 5:18. The worldly knowledge will never lead to discovery of God and His blessings of peace and joy but the knowledge of God does, I Corinthians :19,20, 2 Peter 1:3. There is supernatural power in believing the word of God while the knowledge of men does not attract the supernatural, I Corinthians 1:18. Passionately invest in the knowledge of the word of God.b. Solomon gave back to God what the Queen gave him, vv10,12.c. He was not possessive, he gave gifts to the Queen in return. True knowledge of God gives to God and others. How about you? *Prayer points*Lord, give me passionate hunger and thirst for the true knowledge of GodI ask that the Father, by the Holy Spirit, will be revealing God and the truth to me as I search the pages of the scripturesLord, teach me how to fear and love you moreLord, give us more love for the Truth and willingness to pay the price *HYMN* Lord, speak to me.
