_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_

*TEXT:* JOSHUA 17:1-7.
_KEY VERSE* "And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father" (JOSHUA 17:4)._

A preacher has been quoted as saying that many believers will be greatly surprised when they eventually get to heaven and see the beautifully wrapped blessings on which their names were written but which, unfortunately, they could not possess before leaving this world because of their failure to pray.

The text centres on the division of the allotment of the land among the children of Manasseh, the first born of Joseph. The five daughters of Zelophehad, one of the great-great grandsons of Manasseh came together to meet Eleazer the priest, Joshua the son of Nun and the princes to demand their right by reminding them of the instruction God had given to Moses concerning the sharing of inheritance in the land (Numbers 27:6-11). Before that time, females were not given inheritance in Israel. It was therefore a great landmark in Israel that their request was graciously granted. They might have lost the great privilege if they had failed to ask.

Those who belong to the family of Christ in this present world through repentance and faith in the blood of Christ will partake of the heavenly inheritance reserved for the saints. Those who neglect to pray for their salvation now stand the risk of forfeiting their inheritance and spending eternity in hell forever.

The action of the daughters of Zelophehad underscores the importance of the prayer of faith by saints. The Bible says, "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not" (Matthew 7:7; James 4:2). Through prayer, believers can receive all their needs. They can support their leaders, seek righteousness in the land and pray sinners into the Kingdom.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Failure to pray is a great self-injury.

Claim your inheritance

*1. Know your inheritance in Christ*
a. Zelophead daughters, by law, were not entitled to the inheritance of their father, being female, Numbers 27:1-4.
b. They did not resign to the unfavourable law and traditions that limited or denied them of their inheritance, Numbers 27:1-4. They believed it was only fair to have inheritance even though the law and tradition was not on their side.
c. They did not labour for it but their father did and they believed it is normal to be heirs to their father's inheritance. We are joint heirs with Christ as a result of the price Jesus paid on the cross.
*Q* As a child of God, do you know your inheritance with respect to your healings, health, holiness, heaven, etc? Search the scriptures; Jesus paid it all so that you might inherit them all.
*2. Knock the door to your inheritance until it is opened*
a. By the time inheritances were being divided, they were left out and nobody remembered them, v3.
b. The odds against them were traditional laws, no precedence in Israel and the fact that they were women.
c. They ignored the odds and courageously took steps of faith to ask for their inheritance, Numbers 27:1-4.
d. Moses did not accuse them of being forward or disobedient and neither God did. Their faith was honoured by God, Numbers 27:6-7.
e. Their persistence was rewarded. They got their portions, v5.
*Q* Give examples of people who, against human expectations, God honoured their boldness, courage and persistence of faith and they received their desired portions. (Peter walking on the sea? Elisha asking for double portion).
*Never resign to fate, negativity, traditions, curses, etc. Take a bold step of faith with persistence and claim your inheritance.* Since it is God's will to give you the kingdom, all kingdom blessings are yours.

*Prayer points*
*Praise God* for making all you need in time and eternity available for you free of charge
Ask God *to open your inner eye* through the scriptures to what belong to you and is lacking in your life
Ask for *boldness and courage of faith* to pray through until you have all that heaven has for you
Ask for the Holy Spirit power that will trample and destroy all limitations and powers overriding the possessions of God's people in your church

*HYMN* Fill my cup Lord
