_It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first_

*TEXT:* JOHN 14:21-31.
_*KEY VERSE* "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (JOHN 14:27)._

Many people cannot conceive of life without worry and anxiety. They live in an environment entirely consumed by frenetic activities. They are troubled by events around them, and literally worry themselves to death on fears that may in the end, not materialise. They develop new sicknesses entirely from worrying too much.

The problem really is that while such people may claim to love the Lord, in reality, His word is not deeply rooted in them. Yet, obedience to the word of the Lord is the proof that you love Him. Only then can you enjoy a flourishing fellowship with God the Father and the Son. It also admits the Holy Spirit into your life, enabling Him to guide, counsel, lead and direct your conduct. He continuously reminds you of the word of the Lord and enables you to obey God.

In such a condition, there is no longer a place for worry and anxiety in your life. You experience profoundly deep and enduring peace, which only the Lord can give. You are no longer troubled, irrespective of what is happening around you. He breaks the captivity and bondage of fear, which destroys faith and therefore, leaves people as victims in the hand of the enemy. When you obey God, you are affirming your faith in Jesus Christ, His Son. And just as Satan could not overpower Jesus, even so his evil actions against your life will fail.

The peace our Lord Jesus Christ promised believers is not the absence of trouble or trials, but a calming comfort and assurance that God is in control of whatever situation you may be going through. This is not positive or sheer motivational thinking. It is knowing that because you are a child of God, He will not allow the devil to triumph over you.

*THOUGHT FOR THE DAY* The peace of the Lord brings calm confidence in the face of the storms of life.

Do you love the Lord?

*1. How do you know if you love the Lord?*
Many profess to love the Lord but the text gives how to measure that love.
Who is he that loves the Lord?
a. He that put efforts, with strong passion, to know the Lord's commandment or will, v21.
b. He that keeps all the Lord's commandments, v21.
c. He that keep or take His words, that are not necessarily commandments, very seriously, v23a.
d. He that delight or rejoices at the word of God, whether pleasant or not, v28b.
*Observe* that no mention is made of mouth or lip profession in determining who loves the Lord.
*Q* Can you claim to love the Lord?
The degree of your love for the Lord is known by your enthusiasm and obedience to the word of God.
*2. Divine response to love of God*
How does man respond to sincere and genuine love shown to them? God does the same and much more.
a. The Lord will love him, v21. There is the general love of Jesus and there is the reciprocal love of Jesus.
b. The Lord will manifest His glory, power and revelation to the person, v21.
c. God the Father will love him more in addition to the general love of God for man, v23.
d. God and the Lord Jesus will be pleased to abide with the person permanently, v23.
*Note* Restricted love for Jesus brings restricted manifestations of the glory of God.
*3. The wonders of the Holy Ghost presence in a believer*
a. The God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to the world by the request and authority of Jesus, v26.
b. The Holy Spirit knows *all things* and therefore there is nothing or subject He cannot perfectly teach, v26 (omniscience).
c. He can also bring *all* the forgotten truth to your remembrance, v26.
d. The presence of the indwelling Holy Spirit cannot be separated from the peace of God as opposed to worry.
*Note* The characteristics of the Holy Spirit makes Him your most needed companion in character building, career, call of God, consecration etc.
*Q* How much of the Holy Spirit do you have?

*Prayer points*
Pray that the Holy Spirit will put *more and increasing love of Jesus in your heart*
